U.S. Marshals Apprehend Suspect Wanted In Southeast Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, a 36-year-old Bronx, New York, man wanted in connection with fatally gunning down a man in October 2024, in Southeast, D.C., was taken into custody and is currently awaiting extradition back to Washington, D.C. to stand trial on murder charges.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, October 21, 2024, just shortly before 9:45 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District responded to multiple reports of a shooting near the intersection of 16th Street and Kentucky Avenue in Southeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Jakele Allen, 23, of Northeast, D.C., unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Service responded, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Allen succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

     During the ensuing investigation, Metropolitan Police Homicide Branch Detectives were able to develop information that led to Kareem Thomas, 36, of the Bronx, New York, as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Allen, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Thursday, U.S. Marshals Apprehended Thomas In New York

     On Thursday, July 24, 2025, following an exhaustive search, members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Thomas in Mount Vernon, New York. Mr. Thomas was lodged in the Westchester County, New York, Jail, pending extradition to Washington, D.C., where he will be formally charged with second-degree Murder While Armed and related Weapons Offenses.
