JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported that on Monday, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit apprehended and charged a 35-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey, man in connection with the alleged beating death of a 56-year-old Jersey City man.

Scott Bradley, 35, of Jersey City, New Jersey, has been formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder. He was taken into custody on Monday, July 28, 2025, in the area of Randolph and Claremont Avenues in the City. Bradley was processed on the charge and was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court.

The charge stems from an investigation that began on Friday, July 25, 2025, when, shortly after 9:00 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an injured individual near the intersection of Neptune and Garfield Avenues in the Greenville section of Jersey City.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Joey Richburg, 56, of Jersey City, New Jersey, on the ground, unresponsive, having sustained injuries to his head. Mr. Richburg was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Richburg succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During the ensuing investigation, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Blunt Force injury to the Head and the Manner of Death to be Homicide. Detectives were able to identify Bradley as the individual who struck Mr. Richburg, resulting in his death.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
