FRANKFORT, KY.- A 37-year-old Richmond, Kentucky, man, and a convicted child predator, learned last Monday that he will be well into his sixties when he is finally released from federal prison after being sentenced to nearly three decades for secretly recording a child and creating child pornography.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Paul McCaffrey, on Monday, July 28, 2025, Derek Hahn, 37, of Richmond, Kentucky, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove to 330 months in federal prison, to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release, for his guilty plea to Production of Child Pornography.

According To The Charging Information Filed With Court

According to charging documents and statements made in the District Court, on October 2, 2024, law enforcement Investigators received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, regarding an incident involving child pornography being uploaded and shared with a user or a group of users on the Social Media platform Kik.

During the ensuing investigation, Investigators determined that an IP address associated with Hahn’s residence and place of employment was being utilized to upload the digital images and video files depicting child pornography.

Following the linking of the IP address, Hahn was taken into custody. During his arrest, Investigators seized two cellular phones from Hahn, and a forensic examination of the devices uncovered multiple digital images and video files of children engaged in sexually explicit activity.

During His Plea Allocution, Hahn Admits To Producing Child Pornography

Additionally, Investigators found multiple video files depicting a child undressing and completely nude. In the videos, the child does not appear to know they are being recorded, and the camera is recording from a hidden location. During his previous plea allocution, Hahn admitted to recording and that he produced the video files and digital images.

Acting U.S. Attorney McCaffrey commended the investigative work of the Homeland Security Investigations, the Kentucky State Police, the Frankfort Police Department, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, which led to the successful prosecution of Hahn.
