Man Charged In Tuesday Night Fatal Stabbing In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- Today, August 7, 2025, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported that following an investigation by Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Paterson Police Department, a 43-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the stabbing death of a 37-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man that occurred on Tuesday night in the City of Paterson.
Davon Washington, 43, of Paterson, has been formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and third-degree Posssession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Washington Remains In Custody Pending Court Proceedings
Washington was processed on the charges and is currently in custody pending his first appearance in Passaic County Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson, New Jersey. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Washington pending trial.
The Charges Are The Result Of An Investigation
The charges stem from an investigation that began on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, when, shortly before 6:30 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Hamilton Avenue in the City of Paterson.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 37-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man unresponsive from a life-threatening stab wound. The man was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, the man succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
During a swift-moving investigation, Detectives with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit, in conjunction with the Paterson Police Department, were able to identify Washington as the suspect and the individual responsible for causing the death of the victim.
If convicted at trial, Washington faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison.
