WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, a 24-year-old Silver Spring, Maryland, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with discharging a handgun at a group of individuals following a late-night dispute in Northeast, D.C., in May 2025.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, May 12, 2025, at around 11:50 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to gunfire on the 1900 Block of Bennett Place in Northeast, D.C.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a group of victims, who reported that they were involved in a dispute with a suspect, who pulled out a handgun and fired at them. Following the suspect firing the handgun, the victims and the suspect fled the scene. During the initial investigation, Police Officers determined that no one was struck by gunfire.

During the ensuing investigation, based on information provided by the victims and following the recovery of area video surveillance footage, Detectives were able to identify Nebiy Boreshe, 24, of Silver Spring, Maryland, as the suspect, and a DC Superior Court warrant was issued for his Arrest.

Accordingly, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, pursuant to the arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located an arrested Boreshe. After being taken into custody, Boreshe was formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and related weapons offenses. He was processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
