BOSTON, MA.- On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, following an investigation, a 31-year-old Chinese national, lawfully residing in Boston, Massachusetts, was taken into custody and charged in connection with allegedly attempting to sex traffic a child for sex.
According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, Qichen Yuan, 31, was taken into custody Tuesday night and criminally charged by federal criminal complaint with one count of Attempted Child Sex Trafficking. On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Yuan made his initial appearance in Federal Court in Boston, Massachusetts, for his arraignment on the criminal complaint.
According To The Charging Information Filed In The Complaint
According to the charging information filed in the criminal complaint, it is alleged that on August 16, 2025, Yuan responded to an advertisement posted by an uncover Investigator on a website commonly used to advertise commercial sex acts. The ad contained digital images of young girls and language purported to be written by a girl describing herself as a “Flower Ready To Blossom.”
During a text conversation and a phone call between Yuan and an uncover Investigator posing as the young girl, the undercover agent stated that she was a 15-year-old girl available to perform sex acts in exchange for money. It is further alleged that when the undercover Investigator told Yuan she was young, Yuan stated, “I Love You Being Young Lol.” Yuan then allegedly agreed to pay $250 to have sex with the purported minor after learning that she was just 15 years old.
As further alleged in the criminal complaint, at just around 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Yuan arrived at an agreed-upon location and stood outside. It is also alleged that when an unmarked Police vehicle pulled up, Yuan attempted to flee. Investigators immediately apprehended Yuan. During his arrest procedure, Investigators found two condoms on his person.
If convicted at trial, Yuan faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, at least five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. When sentenced, upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge would determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Yuan’s prior criminal history, if any.
