COVINGTON, KY.- A 30-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio, man will be spending the next two years in federal prison after being sentenced last Thursday to a federal gun crime.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Paul McCaffrey, on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Deshawn Parker, 30, of Cincinnati, Ohio, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning to 24 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to Possession of a Machine Gun.
According To Court Documents
According to documents filed with the District Court, on September 21, 2024, members of the Covington Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle being operated by Parker in Covington, Kentucky. During the traffic stop, Police Officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
When Police Officers asked Parker to exit the vehicle for a potential narcotics investigation, he refused and attempted to drive off. Police Officers were subsequently able to remove Parker from the vehicle and located a small amount of marijuana and shell casings from a handgun. During a search of the vehicle, Police Officers found a loaded Glock 9mm semiautomatic handgun under the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
During a subsequent inspection of the firearm, Police Officers discovered that the firearm was equipped with a machine gun conversion device commonly known as a “Switch” or a “Glock Switch.”
Acting U.S. Attorney McCaffrey commended the investigative work of the Covington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which led to the successful prosecution of Parker.Â
