ELIZABETH, NJ.- Last Friday, a 25-year-old Middlesex County, New Jersey, man was sentenced to New Jersey State Prison for the shooting death of a 27-year-old Somerset County, New Jersey, man that occurred in August 2023, in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
According to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, on Friday, August 22, 2025, Maurice Pierce, 25, of Piscataway, New Jersey, appeared in Union County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Candido Rodriguez, Jr., to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison for his conviction of first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Candido ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Pierce to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.
The conviction and Friday’s prison sentence stem from an investigation that began in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 11, 2023, when members of the Elizabeth Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of North Broad Street and Magnolia Avenue in the City of Elizabeth. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Jameer Outsey, 27, of Bridgewater, New Jersey, unresponsive on the ground, having sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Mr. Outsey was transported to a local hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
“We are grateful for the hard work of Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady, Detective Sergeant Lewis King of Kean University Police Department, who worked on loan to the UCPO Homicide Task Force, and Elizabeth Police Detective John Londono, on this case,” said Prosecutor Daniel. “I hope this sentence can bring some relief to those mourning Mr. Outsey.”
