Saturday, August 30, 2025, 8:15 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Tuesday, following an investigation, a 71-year-old Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and formally charged in connection with a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in May 2025, which claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Gary Battisti, 71, of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of second-degree Vehicular Homicide. Battisti was processed on the charge and was released on a summons complaint pending future court proceedings in Atlantic County Superior Court in Mays Landing, New Jersey.

Charge Stems From An Investigation

The charge stems from an investigation that began on May 17, 2025, when, at approximately 2:20 p.m., Battisti, while driving on Delaware Avenue in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, struck Mu’Zahir Moore, 13, of Pleasantville, New Jersey, while he was walking from a park with his friend, who was also injured in the collision. Mu’Zahir Moore was later pronounced deceased at the hospital from injuries he sustained.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigation Unit and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department determined that Battisti was traveling at an excessive speed when he struck and killed Mu’Zahir Moore and injured his friend.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
