Police Charge Man In Connection With November 2024, Northeast Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, following a nearly year-long investigation, a 45-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting that occurred last November, leaving two injured in Northeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, November 7, 2024, just minutes after 5:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to multiple reports of a shooting on the Unit Block of M Street in Northeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and a woman suffering from a gunshot graze wound. The man was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since recovered. The woman was treated at the scene by medical personnel.

Detectives Were Able To Identify And Arrest Kevin Stanton

     During the ensuing investigation, based on a description provided by the victims and area video camera footage, Detectives were able to identify the shooter as Kevin Stanton, 45, of Southeast, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On Friday, August 29, 2025, Stanton was located and taken into custody and formally charged with Assault with Intent to Kill. He was processed on the charge and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
