Man Fatally Gunned Down Monday Afternoon In Northeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department are continuing the investigation into a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon outside a recreational center in the Brentwood neighborhood of Northeast, D.C., claiming the life of a 36-year-old Northwest, D.C., man.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, September 1, 2025, shortly after 4:15 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to a report of a shooting at a recreation center located on the 2300 Block of 14th Street in the Brentwood neighborhood in Northeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Man Fatally Shot At Recreation Center
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Francois Adkins, 36, of Northwest, D.C., unconscious, on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds. Mr. Adkins was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Adkins tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased early Monday evening.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made as Detectives continue the search for the gunman and a motive for the shooting.
