Conviction And Sentence Stems From A Botched Armed Robbery
The conviction and sentence stem from an investigation that began when, during the evening hours of January 16, 2022, members of the Maple Shade Police Department responded to 911 Emergency Calls reporting gunfire at the Fox Meadow Apartment Complex. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Ezekiel Sanders, Jr., 32, of Maple Shade, New Jersey, lying on the ground on Gardenia Drive inside the Fox Meadow apartment complex, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Mr. Sanders was transported to Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where, despite life-saving efforts at the time, Mr. Sanders succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
During a subsequent investigation, Detectives of the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Maple Shade Police Department uncovered that Macklin-Goodwine and a co-conspirator, Gregory Barry, 24, of Glassboro, New Jersey, had gone to Mr. Sanders’ apartment complex with the intention of committing a robbery. Under a plea agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office, Berry pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter late last year in return for a 17-year prison term and is currently awaiting sentencing.
