Police Charge Maryland Woman In Friday Morning Northwest Robbery

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, a 40-year-old Silver Spring, Maryland, woman was taken into custody and charged in connection with a snatch-and-grab robbery that occurred earlier that day in Northwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, September 12, 2025, at around 9:15 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a robbery on the 1800 Block of 6th Street in Northwest, D.C.

Upon Arrival, Police Officers Locate The Victim

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim, who reported that while on 6th Street, they were approached by a woman, who snatched their property and then fled the scene. While canvassing the immediate area, and based on a description provided by the victim, Police Officers spotted the woman, identified as Ayana Gardiner, 40, of Silver Spring, Maryland, and quickly placed her under arrest.

Police Officers Quickly Apprehend Suspect

     On Friday, September 12, 2025, based on the initial investigation, Responding Police Officers, Gardiner was formally charged with one count of Robbery, Snatch and Grab. She was processed on the charges pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
