North Bergen Police Officer Charged In Seven-Month Theft Scheme

NORTH BERGEN, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 27-year-old North Bergen Police Officer was taken into custody and formally charged in connection with a seven-month theft scheme for allegedly being home while on duty.
According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, on Monday, September 15, 2025, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Rasheed Siyam, 27, with one count of third-degree Theft by Deception, by False Impression. Siyam was taken into custody at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Siyam was processed on the charge and released pending his first appearance, which has been tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025.
Investigation Uncovers Siyam Allegedly Was At Home While On Duty
The charge is the result of an investigation that uncovered that on various dates between December 2024 and May 2025, Siyam, while on duty with the North Bergen Police Department, returned to his home for extended periods of time. During the time period, Siyam remained home over 130 hours beyond the department’s meal breaks.
