WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, a Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court indictment in connection with the shooting death of a 38-year-old Northeast, D.C., man that occurred in August 2024, inside Marvin Gaye Park in Northeast, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at around 10:15 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to sounds of gunfire at Marvin Gaye Park, located on the 500 Block of Division Avenue in Northeast, D.C.

Police Find Man Shot Dead In Park

Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Antowine Baker, 38, of Northeast, D.C., on the ground inside the park, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. At the time, Mr. Baker was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Baker succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During The Investigation, Police Identify Suspect

During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Branch Detectives were able to identify and link Christian Ware to the fatal shooting, and the case was presented to a D.C. Superior Court Grand Jury, which returned an indictment, charging Ware with the shooting death of Mr. Baker, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday, September 15, 2025, Ware was located and, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court Booking Order, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Unit arrested Ware and formally charged him with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed. Ware was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C.
