MARTINSBURG, W.VA.- On Tuesday, a 34-year-old Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, man, and previously convicted felon, will be spending the next two and a half years in federal prison, after he was sentenced for illegally possessing a firearm.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Remington Colt Arnold, 34, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Gina M. Groh to 30 months in federal prison, to be followed by a term of supervised release, after pleading guilty to Being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.

According To Court Documents

According to charging documents and statements made in the District Court, members of the West Virginia State Police were serving an arrest warrant for a parole violation for Arnold at a Morgan County, West Virginia home. The homeowner allowed State Troopers inside, where they found Arnold asleep with a handgun nearby. Following Aenold’s arrest, a search of the room where Arnold was sleeping resulted in the seizure of a backpack. A subsequent search of the backpack resulted in State Troopers finding ammunition inside.

Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction or a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition. Arnold knew that when he possessed the handgun and ammunition, he was a prohibited person, due to his prior felony convictions for assault and grand larceny.

Acting U.S. Attorney Bernard commended the investigative work of the West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which led to the successful prosecution of Arnold.
