Police Charge Man In Southwest Shots Fired Investigation

WASHINGTON, DC.- Yesterday, a 20-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly opening fire and damaging property late Monday afternoon in Southwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, September 15, 2025, at around 5:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District responded to reports of gunfire on the 200 Block of N Street in Southwest, D.C.

Police Officers Find Shell Casings, But Are Unable To Find A Victim

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found evidence of a shooting crime scene and property damage, but were unable to locate a victim. Following canvassing the surrounding area and checking with local hospitals, Responding Police Officers determined that no one was injured in the shooting.

     During the initial investigation, and based on area video surveillance footage, Detectives were able to identify the shooter as Kamari Childs, 20, of Southwest, D.C. On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Childs was located and taken into custody. Childs was formally charged with Endangerment with a Firearm; Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm; and Destruction of Property. He was processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
