Salisbury Man Charged With The Targeted Northeast Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, pursuant to a District of Columbia Superior Court warrant, a 38-year-old Salisbury, North Carolina, man was taken into custody in North Carolina and jailed after being charged in connection with the July 4th holiday weekend targeted hate-based shooting death of a 28-year-old Northeast, D.C. transgender woman, outside a Benning Road market.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, just shortly before 1:00 a.m., while on routine patrol, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District were flagged down on the 2000 Block of Benning Road in Northeast, D.C., for an unconscious woman.
Police Officers Find Woman Shot On Benning Road
Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a woman, later identified as Daquane Johnson, 28, of Northeast, D.C., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ms. Johnson, at the time, was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Ms. Johnson tragically succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Detectives Determine The Murder Was Hate-Based
During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Edgar Arrington, 38, of Salisbury, North Carolina. Detectives further determined that the shooting death was a targeted hate-based murder. As a result of the Detectives’ investigation, a warrant was issued for Arrington’s arrest.
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Arrington was located and taken into custody in North Carolina and charged as a fugitive from justice on the charges of first-degree Premeditated Murder with Aggravating Circumstances; and related Weapons Offenses. He was processed on the charges and is detained pending extradition to Washington, D.C.
