Police Charge Teenager In Last Month’s Southeast Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, following an investigation, a 16-year-old Washington, D.C., boy was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting of a juvenile that occurred last month in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, August 18, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to sounds of gunfire on the 2700 Block of Martin Luther King Jr Avenue in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Evidence Of A Shooting Crime Scene
Upon arrival, Police Officers found evidence of a shooting crime scene, including shell casings on the ground. While canvassing the area, Police Officers were notified that a juvenile male had been transported to an area hospital seeking treatment for multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. During the initial investigation, Police Officers and Detectives determined that the victim had been struck by gunfire at the location of the crime scene. Based on witness accounts and following interviewing the juvenile victim, Detectives were able to identify the shooter.
On Tuesday, Detectives Arrest Teen
On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Detectives arrested a 16-year-old Southeast, D.C. boy and formally charged him with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The teen was processed on the charges and was remanded pursuant to a DC Superior Court Custody order to the Youth Services Center, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia Family Law Division.
