West New York Man Sentenced For 2021 Beating Death Of His Mother

WEST NEW YORK, NJ.- On Thursday, a 38-year-old West New York, New Jersey, man learned he will be spending the next four and a half decades in New Jersey State Prison for the beating death of his 62-year-old mother that occurred inside their West New York home back in January of 2021.
According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Melo, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Emmanuel Gonzalez, 38, of West New York, New Jersey, appeared in Hudson County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Angelo Servidio to 45 years in State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Gonzalez to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.
In January 2025, following a trial in Hudson County Superior Court, a jury found Gonzalez guilty of first-degree Murder for the beating death of his mother, Irma Gonzalez, 62, of West New York, New Jersey.
January’s conviction and Thursday’s sentence stem from an investigation that began during the afternoon of January 14, 2021, when, at around 1:30 p.m., members of the West New York Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive woman inside a bedroom of a home located at 439 66th Street in West New York.
Upon arrival, Police Officers were met by Emmanuel Gonzalez, the son of the victim. Police Officers were directed to an upstairs bedroom where they found Ms. Gonzales unresponsive. Ms. Gonzalez was pronounced deceased at the scene. During a subsequent autopsy, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Blunt Force Trauma and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office initially charged Gonzalez with second-degree Aggravated Assault, but following the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner, the charges were upgraded to first-degree murder. Gonzalez has remained in custody at the Hudson County Correctional Facility. He will now be transferred to the custody of the New Jersey State Department of Corrections.
