PHILLIPSBURG, NJ.- On Tuesday, following an investigation, a 28-year-old Phillipsburg, New Jersey, woman was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a toddler being seriously injured in a bathtub earlier this year in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

According to Acting Warren County Prosecutor Jessica L. Cardone, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at around 5:30 p.m., members of the Phillipsburg Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive toddler at a residence located on the 300 Block of Mercer Street in the Town of Phillipsburg.

Upon Arrival, Police Officers Provide Life-Saving Measures

Upon arrival, Police Officers located the child and provided life-saving measures. The child was immediately transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Warren Campus, where the child underwent treatment for submersion injuries due to being unattended in a bathtub. The toddler was later transported to St. Luke’s Bethlehem Campus and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for advanced treatment.

Detectives Determine That Amber Schubert Left The Child Unattended In The Bathtub

An investigation was launched by the Phillipsburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office. During the course of the investigation, Detectives determined that the toddler had been left alone in the bathtub and that Amber L. Schubert was responsible for the child’s care and supervision.

Accordingly, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Schubert was taken into custody and charged with second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Warren County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Warren County Superior Court in Belvidere, New Jersey.

If convicted at trial, Schubert faces up to ten years in New Jersey State Prison.
