ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- A 40-year-old Atlantic City, New Jersey, man will be facing spending over a decade in New Jersey State Prison when sentenced early next year, after pleading guilty last Friday to brutally stabbing a man in the neck, back in July 2023.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Friday, September 12, 2025, Tyler Smith, 40, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Joseph Levin to one count of first-degree Attempted Murder. In return for the guilty plea, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend that Smith be sentenced to 15 years in State Prison, with a mandatory minimum of 12 years pursuant to the No Early Release Act.

Guilty Plea Stems From A July 2023 Stabbing

The guilty plea stems from an investigation that began on July 3, 2023, when members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a report of a man being stabbed in the neck at the Stanley Holmes Village housing complex located on the 1600 Block of Adriatic Avenue in the City.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man who had sustained a severe stab wound to his neck. Police Officers transported the man to an area hospital for treatment. During the ensuing investigation at that time, the victim informed Responding Police Officers and Detectives that he had arrived at the Stanley Holmes Village with a friend when he was approached by an unknown man, later identified as Smith. Smith stated, “Why You Keep Bringing These White People Around Here?” before stabbing the victim in the neck.

Police were able to identify Smith as the suspect from video surveillance footage, which captured the entire incident, in addition to a wallet containing Smith’s driver’s license found at the scene. Smith was arrested and charged shortly thereafter. The victim survived the attack and has since made a full recovery.

Following entering his guilty plea, Judge Levin accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for January 16, 2026. At that time, Smith will be sentenced to the terms of the negotiated plea agreement.
