Police Charge Man In Southeast Shots-Fired Incident

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Sunday, a 39-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting incident that occurred late Saturday night in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, just minutes before 11:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of shots fired on the 100 Block of Atlantic Street in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Learn That Hinton Shot At The Victim But Missed
Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a victim who reported that they were involved in a dispute with the suspect over money, when the suspect, identified as Alonzo Hinton, 39, of Southeast, D.C., pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot in their direction, missing them, before fleeing the scene.
A short time later, Police Officers located Hinton and placed him under arrest. Hinton was formally charged with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. He was processed on the charge and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
