Derry Man Indicted For Distributing Child Pornography

Tuesday, September 23, 2025, 8:15 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

CONCORD, NH.- A 55-year-old Derry, New Hampshire, man is facing up to 50 years in federal prison after being formally charged in a federal indictment with distributing digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent and pubescent children.

According to U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the District of New Hampshire returned an indictment charging Joseph Baran, 55, of Derry, New Hampshire, with one count of Distribution of Child Pornography; and one count of Possession of Child Pornography.

According To The Charging Information Filed In The Indictment

According to the charging information unsealed in the indictment, during an investigation into the distribution of child pornography, Baran was identified by Federal Agents as participating in a technically sophisticated, anonymous online group that shared digital images and video files of child pornography.

Baran was initially taken into custody and charged by a federal criminal complaint, and made his first appearance in Federal Court on August 21, 2025. He will be arraigned on the indictment at a later date.

If convicted at trial, Baran faces a mandatory minimum of fifteen years and up to 30 years in federal prison on the charge of distribution of child pornography. On the charge of possession of child pornography, Baran faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. At sentencing, upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge would determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offenses and Baran’s prior criminal history, if any.

U.S. Attorney Creegan commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation Operational Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Boston Field Office, which led to Baran’s arrest and indictment.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
