RUMSON, NJ.- On Monday, following a swift-moving investigation, a 42-year-old Red Bank, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and formally charged with multiple firearms offenses for allegedly discharging a firearm that left a Rumson, New Jersey, home damaged during the afternoon hours on Monday.
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, Terry Haupt, 42, of Red Bank, New Jersey, was formally charged with one count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; one count of third-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and one count of fourth-degree Possession of a High-Capacity Ammunition Magazine.
On Monday, September 22, 2025, just shortly before 3:30 p.m., members of the Rumson Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a residence on Meadowbrook Avenue being struck by gunfire. Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that one of the bullets went through the resident’s window. Pieces of the bullet were later recovered inside the home.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and responding Police Officers and Detectives of the Rumson Police Department determined that Haupt, who was found in the area, was in possession of a rifle with a high-capacity magazine and was the individual who discharged the rifle, striking the residence. During Haupt’s arrest procedure, following a records check, Detectives further determined that he was prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition.
Haupt was processed on the charges pending future court proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court in Freehold, New Jersey. Haupt’s custody status was not reported.
