Police Charge Man In August 2025 Shooting In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- On Wednesday, following an investigation, a 43-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting of a Newark, New Jersey, man that occurred in early August in the City of Paterson, New Jersey.

     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Anthony Moore, 43, of Paterson, New Jersey, was formally charged with first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

     Moore was processed on the charges and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court in Paterson, New Jersey. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Moore pending trial.

     The charges stem from an investigation that began on Monday, August 4, 2025, when, shortly after 10:30 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Park Avenue and Summer Street in the City of Paterson. 

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located evidence of a shooting crime scene and discovered a 19-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he underwent treatment and was subsequently released and continues to recover at his home.

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, based on witness descriptions and statements, as well as area video surveillance footage, were able to identify Moore as the individual responsible for shooting the 19-year-old man multiple times.

     On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Moore was taken into custody by members of the Paterson Police Department in the area of Park Avenue and Summer Street in the City of Paterson. If convicted at trial, Moore faces up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison, and a consecutive 10 years upon his conviction of certain persons not to possess weapons.
