Linden Man Charged In The September Shooting Death Of Essex County Man

LINDEN, NJ.- Today, following an investigation, a 23-year-old Linden, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally gunning down a 28-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man, which occurred late last month on a Linden, New Jersey street.

     According to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Yamir Saffold-Davis, 23, of Linden, New Jersey, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Saffold-Davis was taken into custody earlier today in Elizabeth, New Jersey, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service. 

     Saffold-Davis was processed on the charges and remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility, pending future court proceedings in Union County Superior Court in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

As Previously Reported

     As previously reported, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, just shortly before 3:30 p.m., members of the Linden Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on the 3100 Block of Irene Street in Linden, New Jersey. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Darrell Sanders, 28, of Newark, New Jersey, unresponsive, having sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. 

     Mr. Sanders was transported to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Sanders succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and the Linden Police Department were able to identify Saffold-Davis as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Sanders, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
