Police Charge Second Teenager In August 2025 Southeast Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Sunday, a second 16-year-old Southeast, D.C., boy was taken into custody and detained after being formally charged in connection with the shooting of a teen that occurred in August of 2025 in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, and as previously reported on Monday, August 18, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to sounds of gunfire on the 2700 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival at the location, Police Officers located evidence of a shooting crime scene, but were unable to locate a victim. While investigating the scene, Police Officers were notified that a juvenile had arrived at an area hospital seeking treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
During The Initial Investigation, Police Officers Learned That The Shooting Victim Had Arrived At The Hospital
During the initial investigation, and following interviewing the juvenile at the hospital, responding Police Officers determined the juvenile was struck by gunfire on the 2700 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in Southeast, D.C. During the ensuing investigation, Detectives identified two 16-year-old Southeast, D.C teenagers as the suspects and the individuals responsible for injuring the juvenile.
Previously, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Detectives located and charged a 16-year-old Southeast, D.C. boy with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
On Sunday, October 5, 2025, Detectives located and arrested the second 16-year-old Southeast, D.C., boy and formally charged him with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Both teens have been processed on the charges pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia Family Law Divison.
