Man Fatally Gunned Down Late Sunday Night In Southeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 30-year-old Northeast, D.C., man that occurred late Sunday night in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, just shortly after 10:15 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to 911 Emergency Calls reporting a shooting on the 3800 Block of 9th Street in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Man Fatally Shot
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Simon Getachew, 30, of Northwest, D.C., lying on the ground, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Getachew was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been reported as Detectives continue their search for the suspect and a motive for the shooting.
