POINT PLEASANT, NJ.- On Thursday, following an online child pornography investigation, a 74-year-old Point Pleasant Borough, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with allegedly possessing digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the culmination of an investigation, James Vavra, 74, of Point Pleasant Borough, New Jersey, was formally charged with one count of Possession of Child Pornography. Vavra was processed on the charge and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, New Jersey.
The charge stems from an investigation that began when the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force contacted the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad after the State Police had received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, regarding an individual in the Ocean County, New Jersey area, who was uploading media files containing child pornography to the internet.
During the investigation, Ocean County Investigators were able to identify an IP address associated with a Point Pleasant Borough, New Jersey, residence as the location where the individual was uploading the child pornography to the internet. Investigators ultimately identified Vavra as the owner of the IP address.
Accordingly, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Ocean County law enforcement agencies executed a court-authorized search warrant at Vavra’s Point Pleasant Borough home. During the search, investigators seized multiple electronic devices belonging to Vavra. A subsequent preliminary examination of the devices uncovered media files depicting child pornography.
Following the discovery of the child pornography, Vavra was formally charged by Investigators and Detectives at the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department and transported to the Ocean County Jail.
