LOWER OXFORD TOWNSHIP, PA.- Just shortly around 9:30 p.m., on Saturday, October 25, 2025, a violent shooting erupted at Lincoln University in Lower Oxford Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, during the school’s homecoming weekend, leaving one person dead and six others wounded, Police Officials reported.
According to a news conference on Sunday, the deceased was identified as 25-year-old Jujuan Jeffers of Wilmington, Delaware, who died shortly after midnight from a gunshot wound to the head.
All six injured victims are between the ages of 20 and 25 and are expected to survive, officials said. Among them is one current Lincoln University student and one alum; the remaining four wounded had no known direct affiliation with the institution.
The gunfire broke out outside the school’s International Cultural Center, where tents and tables had been set up for the tailgating and post-football game celebration.
Investigation, Arrest, And Campus Status;
Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said investigators believe there may have been more than one shooter involved, though evidence so far suggests it was not a premeditated mass-casualty attack.
“We’re operating as if this is not an incident where someone came in with the design to inflict mass damage on a college campus,” de Barrena-Sarobe said at Sunday’s press conference.
Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, of Wilmington, Delaware, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a license. He is being held on $25,000 bail. Investigators have not confirmed whether his weapon was fired during the incident.
The campus was placed on lockdown in the immediate aftermath and was later lifted early Sunday morning. Classes were canceled for Monday, and counseling services were made available to students and staff.
Reaction & Impact;
University President Dr. Brenda A. Allen called the incident “tragic” and urged the community to “come together in healing.” A campus-wide reflection gathering was scheduled for noon today.
Governor Josh Shapiro said his administration is offering “full support” to Lincoln University and law enforcement agencies.
Witnesses described chaos as hundreds fled “in every direction” once the shooting began. “It was like fireworks, then everyone started screaming and running,” said one student who asked not to be named.
Broader Context;
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is the nation’s first degree-granting historically Black college, located about 45 miles southwest of Philadelphia. The homecoming weekend had drawn thousands of alumni, students, and families to campus.
The shooting marks at least the 26th incident of gunfire on U.S. college or university grounds in 2025, according to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive, underscoring a troubling national trend of violence at large campus events.
Authorities continue to review surveillance footage, collect ballistic evidence, and interview witnesses. The Chester County District Attorney’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police have urged anyone with photos or videos from the event to share them via a designated tip line.
As Lincoln University mourns, students and faculty are grappling with questions of security and safety on historically Black campuses nationwide.
