Police Charge Maryland Man In August’s Northeast Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, a 32-year-old Germantown, Maryland, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting death of a 36-year-old woman that occurred in August 2025, in the Brookland neighborhood of Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, just shortly after 11:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting inside a residence located on the 3300 Block of 15th Street in Northeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a woman, identified as Mignon Brown-Massey, 36, of Northeast, D.C., inside the location, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ms. Brown-Massey was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Ms. Brown-Massey succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Homicide Branch Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Darryn Bynum, Jr., 32, of Germantown, Maryland, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Accordingly, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Bynum in Germantown, Maryland. Bynum was transported to the Homicide Branch Division, where he was formally charged with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed. He was processed on the charge and remanded to the DC Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
