JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Tuesday, a 61-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey, man, currently detained in the Hudson County Correctional Facility, was formally charged in connection with the robbery and stabbing death of a 26-year-old man that occurred during the early afternoon hours last Friday in the City’s Historic District.

According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit formally charged Roberto Camacho, 61, of Jersey City, New Jersey, with first-degree Murder; first-degree Felony Murder; and first-degree Robbery. Camacho was served and processed on the charges at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he has been detained since the crime occurred.

Arrest And Charges Are The Result Of Homicide Investigation

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Friday, October 24, 2025, when, shortly before 12:30 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing on Jersey Avenue at 1st and Maxwell Streets in Jersey City’s Downtown Historic District.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Joan Segovia, 26, lying on the ground suffering from a life-threatening stab wound to his chest. Mr. Segovia was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Segovia succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased just shortly after 1:00 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Stab Wound to the Chest and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.

Camacho was taken into custody at the scene, and during the subsequent investigation, Detectives of the Hudson County Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department determined that Camacho had fatally stabbed Mr. Segovia during the commission of a robbery.
