Brooklyn Woman Charged In The August 2025 Chester, NJ Fatal Crash

CHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 26-year-old Brooklyn, New York, woman was taken into custody and charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in Chester Township, New Jersey, during the late afternoon hours of August 31, 2025.
According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, just shortly before 6:00 p.m., members of the Chester Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 206 at the intersection of Lamerson and Fox Chase Roads in the Township.
According To The Charging Information Filed In The Complaint
The charges alleged that Ana-Maria Ciofu, 26, of Brooklyn, New York, was driving a 2025 Lexus IS300 on Route 206 Northbound when she struck a 2013 Toyota RAV4. It is further alleged that Ciofu was traveling at a high rate of speed just seconds before striking the Toyota RAV4. The driver of the Toyota RAV4, identified only as C.K., was later pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the collision. A passenger in Ms. Ciofu’s vehicle, identified as Lubov Sakovich, sustained bodily injuries in the collision.
Accordingly, on Monday, November 3, 2025, Ciofu was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of second-degree Vehicular Homicide; and a Disorderly Persons Offense of Assault by Auto. Following her First Appearance in Morris County Superior Court, Ciofu was released on pretrial monitoring pending her next court appearance, tentatively scheduled for December 15, 2025, in Morris County Superior Court in Morristown, New Jersey.
