Police Charge Man In Early Halloween Morning Shooting In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- Last Friday, following a swift-moving investigation, a 46-year-old Clifton, New Jersey, man, a previously convicted felon, was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier that day in the City of Paterson, leaving a 31-year-old man hospitalized from a gunshot wound.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Friday, October 31, 2025, Detectives of the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit formally charged Yousif Awadallah, 46, of Clifton, New Jersey, with three counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault; first-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; three counts of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Awadallah was additionally charged on Friday with one count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons, for being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Awadallah was taken into custody without incident by members of the Wayne Township Police Department in the area of Route 23 and Old Turnpike Road in Paterson, New Jersey. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court in Paterson, New Jersey.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion with the court to detain Awadallah pending trial.
Charges Are The Result Of A Halloween Morning Shooting
The charges stem from an investigation that began during the early morning hours of Friday, October 31, 2025, when, just around 4:15 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Summer Street and 21st Avenue in the City of Paterson. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 31-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was treated and has since been released.
During the initial investigation, based on the evidence collected at the scene and area video surveillance, Police Officers and Detectives were quickly able to identify Awadallah as the shooter, and he was taken into custody later that day.
