Police Charge Teenage Girl In Northwest, D.C. Violent Carjacking

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, following an investigation, a 16-year-old Silver Spring, Maryland, girl was taken into custody and detained in connection with a violent carjacking that occurred in early June in Northwest, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at around 7:15 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a carjacking with injuries on the 1100 Block of Rhode Island Avenue in Northwest, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers learned that a man had pulled his vehicle over on the 1100 Block of Rhode Island Avenue and exited his vehicle. The suspect, a teenage girl, entered the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away. The man quickly returned to his vehicle and attempted to stop the girl from driving off. The man was dragged for several blocks before falling off the car and sustaining serious injuries. The teen suspect fled the scene in the man’s car.

Detectives Identify Maryland Girl As The Suspect

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify the suspect as a 16-year-old Silver Spring, Maryland, girl, and a D.C. Superior Court Juvenile Custody Order warrant was issued for her arrest.

     On Thursday, November 6, 2025, Detectives arrested and charged the girl with one count of Carjacking; Reckless Driving; Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle; Receiving Stolen Property; and Leaving the Scene After Colliding. She was processed on the charges pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia Family Law Division.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: As in adult criminal cases, the charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and a juvenile defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
