WEST DEPTFORD, NJ.- On Sunday, following an investigation, a 28-year-old Waltham Cross, United Kingdom, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with allegedly driving intoxicated and causing a crash that resulted in the death of an individual and injuring two other individuals that occurred late yesterday afternoon in West Deptford, New Jersey.

According to Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns and charging information filed in the criminal complaint, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, just shortly after 5:30 p.m., members of the West Deptford Police Department responded to the PNS Gas and Food Mart located on Hessian Road in West Deptford, after receiving a report of two intoxicated men.

Upon arrival, Police Officers observed a white sedan associated with the intoxicated men. Upon the officers’ arrival, the white sedan exited the gas station’s parking lot and traveled onto Hessian Road. One of the West Deptford Police Officers operating a marked patrol vehicle activated the vehicle’s emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.

Shortly thereafter, the white sedan being operated by Steve Hall, 28, Waltham Cross, United Kingdom, traveled into the opposite lane of travel and struck another vehicle, being operated as a ride share vehicle, killing the driver and injuring the passenger. Hall and his passenger also sustained injuries in the crash.

A witness observed police lights at a distance and observed Hall’s vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and collide with the other vehicle.

Accordingly, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, Hall was formally charged with one count of second-degree Death by Auto; and two counts of fourth-degree Assault by Auto. Hall was additionally issued motor vehicle summonses. It was not reported whether Hall was served with the charges at the hospital or whether he was being detained pending a First Appearance in Gloucester County Central Judicial Processing Court.

Due to the case involving a fatality in an encounter with a law enforcement official, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office will be simultaneously investigating this matter as required by law.
