WASHINGTON, DC.- A 34-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with assaulting a woman with a bottle and causing property damage during an apparent attempted theft that occurred late last Friday night in Southeast, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, November 14, 2025, just shortly before 10:15 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an assault on the 3700 Block of Minnesota Avenue in Southeast, D.C.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim, who reported that they attempted to stop a suspect, later identified as William James Crist, 34, of Southeast, D.C., who had entered a business and tried to steal property. Crist assaulted the victim with a bottle, causing minor injuries, and broke the windshield of the victim’s motor vehicle. Crist continued the assault by throwing a bottle at a woman, causing her to sustain minor injuries. Police Officers quickly detained Crist at the scene.

Based on the Detectives’ ensuing investigation, Crist was taken into custody and formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; Simple Assault; and Destruction of Property. Crist was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
