NEWARK, NJ.- Last Monday, a 42-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man learned he will be potentially facing spending the rest of his life in New Jersey State Prison when sentenced early next year, after being found guilty of horrifically sexually assaulting a preteen family member on multiple occasions back in 2021 and 2022.

According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, on Monday, November 10, 2025, following a three-day trial in Essex County Superior Court, before Superior Court Judge Christopher S. Romanyshyn, the jury found Javier Freire-Ramos, 42, of Newark, New Jersey, guilty of two counts of first-degree Murder; three counts of second-degree Sexual Assault; and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Freire-Ramos Will Be Facing A Maximum Of Life In Prison

Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, Judge Romanyshyn accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for February 6, 2026. At that time, Freire-Ramos faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years and a maximum of life in State Prison, pursuant to the Jessica Lunsford Act.

During the trial, Assistant Prosecutors Logan Teisch and Zhen Liu presented evidence that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Freire-Ramos sexually assaulted and abused an eleven-year-old female family member on multiple occasions between May 2021 and February 2022.

“The defendant had an obligation to love and protect the victim. Instead, he violated that trust and physically and sexually assaulted her. I hope this verdict gives the victim some peace, knowing that he will be held accountable for what he did,” said Assistant Prosecutor Teisch. Prosecutor Liu added, “It took extraordinary courage for the child victim to come forward and testify about the abuse. We thank the jury for their verdict and for holding this defendant accountable.”

Essex County Prosecutor Stephens commended the investigative work of the Newark Police Department, which led to the successful prosecution of Freire-Ramos.
