CAMDEN, NJ.- On Monday, a 53-year-old Springfield, New Jersey, man, formerly employed as a Union High School Music Teacher, learned he will be an elderly man after being sentenced to over two decades in federal prison for engaging in sexual conduct with a child and video recording the conduct to create child pornography.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Appointed Attorney Alina Habba, on Monday, November 24, 2025, Michael Hamilton, 53, of Springfield, New Jersey, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Christine P. O’Hearn to 275 months in federal prison, to be followed by ten years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea.
Hamilton previously appeared in Federal Court in Camden, New Jersey, and pleaded guilty before Judge O’Hearn to a federal information charging him with one count of Production of Child Pornography. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge O’Hearn ordered Hamilton to pay $5,000 in restitution to the child victim.
According To Documents Filed In The Federal District Court
According to the charging information filed with the District Court, Hamilton, while employed as a Music Teacher at Union High School, admitted to meeting the child victim and engaging in sexual conduct with the victim, which Hamilton recorded on video. Investigators seized a copy of the video during a court-authorized search of his home in October 2023.
In addition, Hamilton admitted to receiving and possessing sexually explicit messages, digital images, and video files of two other children.
“There is no higher responsibility than safeguarding the welfare of our children. The defendant took advantage of children for his own sexual desires. We will continue to protect children and bring justice to sexual predators. I commend the Federal Bureau of Investigation and our law enforcement partners for their critical work reaching this result,” said Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba.
