WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, following an investigation, a 40-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly assaulting a man with a gun back in August 2022, in Southeast, D.C.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, August 19, 2022, at around 1:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an altercation on the 2300 Block of Good Hope Road in Southeast, D.C.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim, who reported that while he was on Good Hope Road, he became involved in a verbal altercation with an unidentified male suspect. During the argument, the suspect pulled out a handgun and struck him with it several times, and then fled the scene. The victim was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment.

During the ensuing investigation, at that time, based on a description provided by the victim and area surveillance camera footage, Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Anthony Hammond, 40, of Southeast, D.C., as the assailant, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Tuesday, pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant, Hammond was located and taken into custody. Pursuant to the warrant, Hammond was formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. He was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
