BURLINGTON, VT.- Last Tuesday, a 45-year-old South Burlington, Vermont, man learned he would be spending the next decade in federal prison after being sentenced in Federal Court in Burlington, Vermont, after previously pleading guilty to a federal child enticement offense.

According to First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael P. Drescher, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Jason McGrath, 45, of South Burlington, Vermont, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mary Kay Lanthier to 120 months in federal prison, to be followed by ten years of supervised release, after previously pleading guilty to Attempting to Entice a Minor to Produce Child Pornography.

According To Court Documents Filed With Thew Court

According to charging documents filed with the District Court and statements made during McGrath’s plea allocution, Investigators determined that McGrath had corresponded with two individuals over an internet messaging application, offering to pay money for the production of original child pornography.

McGrath sent money to the user in an effort to obtain child pornography and received digital images and video files from at least one user that depicted a child as young as eight years old. McGrath additionally exchanged over 1,800 messages with a third person, coaching that person on how to sexually abuse an 11-year-old girl, providing explicit instructions, and requesting that photographs of the abuse be sent to him.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Drescher commended the investigative work of U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and the Vermont State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, with assistance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department, which resulted in the successful prosecution of McGrath.
