Police Charge Man In Saturday Afternoon Assault In Northeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday afternoon, a 21-year-old man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with slashing a store employee during an attempted shoplifting incident at a  Northeast, D.C. store.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, just shortly after 12:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a store located on the 1500 Block of Kenilworth Avenue in Northeast, D.C.

Police Officers Find Employee Who Was Injured In Shoplifting Incident

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a store employee with a minor injury to their hand, who informed them that an unidentified suspect had entered the store and attempted to steal some merchandise. The employee confronted the suspect, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect pulled out a knife, causing the employee to sustain a laceration to their hand. The suspect then fled the store in an unknown direction. The employee was treated for the cut on his hand at the scene.

     Within minutes, while canvassing the immediate area, and based on a description provided by the store employee, Police Officers spotted the suspect, later identified as Alexis Rivera, 21, with no known address, and placed him under arrest. Following being taken into custody and formally charged with one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

     Rivera was processed on the charge and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
