ASBURY PARK, NJ.- Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago reported that a Monmouth County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a 24-year-old Tinton Falls, New Jersey, man in connection with a September 2025, Asbury Park, New Jersey, shooting.
The Grand Jury returned the five-count indictment charging Zion J. Langhorne, 24, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, with first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon; and second-degree Eluding.
The indictment is the result of an incident that unfolded on Saturday, September 13, 2025, when, just shortly after 5:00 p.m., members of the Asbury Park Police Department responded to reports of gunfire on the 1200 Block of Washington Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers and Detectives determined that three shots were fired from a motor vehicle at a group of people, but no one was struck by gunfire.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Asbury Park Police Department quickly identified Langhorne as the individual responsible for the shooting. Later that day, Police Officers attempted to conduct a motor-vehicle stop on Langhorne’s vehicle. While stopped by Police Officers, Langhorne fled the scene, ignoring Police Officers’ commands to stop, and committed multiple traffic violations, placing others at risk.
On September 18, 2025, Langhorne was located and taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Asbury Police Department, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. At which time, Langhorne was formally charged by criminal complaint, and the case was presented to the Grand Jury.
