BOONTON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 35-year-old Boonton Township, New Jersey, man will be facing spending the rest of his life in New Jersey State Prison when sentenced next year, after being found guilty on Monday, for the horrific beating death of his 61-year-old father, whose lifeless body was found on December 24, 2023, inside their Boonton Township, New Jersey home.

According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, on Monday, December 15, 2025, following a seven-week-long trial in Morris County Superior Court before Superior Court Judge Ralph E. Amirata, a jury found Kyle Meyer, 35, guilty of first-degree Murder; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

The Jury Found Meyer Guilty For His Father’s Murder

Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, Judge Amirata accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for February 6, 2026. At that time, Meyer faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years and up to life in State Prison. Meyer will remain in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending sentencing.

The conviction stems from an investigation that began on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, when, at around 1:15 p.m., members of the Boonton Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive man inside a residence located on Old Denville Road in the Township.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found the deceased body of Gregory Meyer, 61, of Boonton Township, New Jersey, inside the home. During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Boonton Township Police Department identified the suspect as Kyle Meyer, Mr. Meyer’s son, who resided in the home with his father. At approximately 9:00 p.m., Meyer was taken into custody in Paterson, New Jersey, and later charged with his father’s murder.

According to the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Cause of Mt. Meyer’s Death was exsanguination due to multiple injuries, and the Manner of Death to be Homicide. Investigators recovered a battery-operated pole saw from the home, and it was determined to be the weapon Meyer used to murder his father.
