MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 43-year-old Pennsylvania woman will be facing up to 15 years in New Jersey State Prison when sentenced next year, after being found guilty earlier this week of threatening and attempting to cause harm to a family relative.
According to Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, following a trial before Superior Court Judge Kevin T. Smith in Gloucester County Superior Court, a Jury found Sykia Harper-Brown, 43, of Pennsylvania, guilty of second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and third-degree Terroristic Threats.
Judge Smith Schedules Sentencing In February 2026
Following the jury returning the findings of guilt, Judge Smith accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for February 27, 2026. At that time, Harper-Brown faces a maximum of 10 years in State Prison for the conviction on the weapons offense and an additional five years for the sentence on the terroristic threats charge. Judge Smith additionally revoked Harper-Brown’s release and remanded her to custody pending sentencing.
The conviction stems from an incident that unfolded on November 4, 2023, when Harper-Brown traveled from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Monroe Township, New Jersey, armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a baseball bat. Prior to the incident, Harper-Brown exchanged threatening texts and Facebook messages with the victim, her sister-in-law.
Upon arriving in Monroe Township, Harper-Brown went to the victim’s residence, banged on the door, and demanded her sister-in-law come to the door. While the victim’s fiancé called 911, Harper-Brown ran back to her vehicle and fired the handgun into the air from the sidewalk. Responding Police Officers later recovered shell casings from the area.
“This verdict affirms that threats and intimidation that place others in fear will be met with serious consequences,” said Prosecutor Johns.Â
