Former Washington Township Man Charged With Forgery

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A Washington Township, New Jersey, man, and former Washington Township Council member, if convicted, is facing nearly two years in New Jersey State Prison after being formally charged in an indictment for allegedly sending harassing letters to Board of Education members.
According to Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a Gloucester County Grand Jury returned a four-count indictment charging Richard Bennett of Washington Township, New Jersey, with two counts of fourth-degree Forgery; and two counts of fourth-degree Harassment.
According to the charging information filed in the indictment, it is alleged that Bennett, who was a sitting Washington Township Council member, mailed harassing letters to two members of the Washington Township Board of Education. It is further alleged that the letters were sent in the name of another member of the Board of Education.
