Man Fatally Gunned Down Early Friday Morning In Northeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding an early Friday morning shooting that claimed the life of a 44-year-old Northeast, D.C., man.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Interim Police Chief Jeffery W. Carroll, on Friday, December 19, 2025, just shortly after 2:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting that had occurred inside an apartment, located on the 1000 Block of North Capitol Street in Northeast, D.C.
Police Officers Make Entry And Find The Lifeless Body Of A 44-Year-Old Man
Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers made entry into the apartment, where they discovered the lifeless body of Melvin Saunders, 44, of Northeast, D.C., having succumbed to a gunshot wound. Mr. Saunders was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
The investigation remains ongoing. No arrests have been reported, as Detectives continue the search for the suspect and a motive for the shooting.
