WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 19-year-old Washington, D.C., man, currently being detained at the D.C. Central Detention Facility, was arrested and formally charged in connection with the alleged shooting death of a 32-year-old man that occurred back in May 2025 in Southwest, D.C.

According to Interim D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffery W. Carroll, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, just shortly before 8:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to reports of gunfire on the 100 Block of Irvington Street in Southwest, D.C.

Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located a man, later identified as Christopher Rashad Riles, 32, of Southwest, D.C., unresponsive, lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Riles, at that time, was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Riles succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, based on witness descriptions and area video surveillance footage, were able to identify Royale McGlenn, Jr., 19, of Southwest, D.C., as the shooter and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Riles, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday, December 29, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant and booking order, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Unit traveled to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, where they served and processed McGlenn on the charge of Premeditated Murder While Armed.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
