Sunday, January 4, 2026, 8:30 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

PAULSBORO, NJ.- On Saturday, January 3, 2026, Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns reported that a 40-year-old Paulsboro, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly shooting a woman to death and injuring a juvenile earlier in the morning.

Ramon Luis Acevedo, 40, of Paulsboro, has been formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; second-degree Aggravated Assault; and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Acevedo was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Salem County Jail pending future court proceedings in Gloucester County Superior Court in Woodbury, New Jersey.

The charges are the result of an investigation that began during the morning hours of Saturday, January 3, 2026, when members of the Paulsboro Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting at a residence located on Elizabeth Avenue in Paulsboro.

Upon arrival, Responding Police Officers located an adult woman in the bedroom of the home, having succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head. Police Officers also located a juvenile who had fled the residence after being shot and was receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound by First Responders.

During the initial 911 Emergency Call, Acevedo identified himself and said that he had shot both victims. After being detained by Responding Police Officers, Avevedo told Police Officers that he intentionally shot the woman in the head and accidentally shot the juvenile after being startled while still holding the handgun.

If convicted at trial, Acevedo faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison for the murder, and an additional mandatory minimum of five years and up to 10 years in prison for the shooting of the juvenile.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
